Philosophical Point
In life, the best stuff is free, but unless you have it now, it is not available.
People are constantly confused. “How come you say Tarkovsky’s movies are not available?! Here they are, on my streaming service!!” Yeah, but did you watch them? And even if you did, did you manage to enjoy them? Physical availability in a massive way has sometimes made the situation worse. When everything is available, it becomes really hard to choose with an excess of garbage.
And therefore, The Brothers Karamazov (all of them) are probably not available either.
The "top five moments of your life" are not available, because if they were, you wouldn't need to count them.
Philosophy for business leaders is not available, because business leaders are ephemeral creatures.
“Life with purpose” is not available, as the one concerned with this definition misses the point.
Some concepts are not available just because they are bullshit. “The Trinity business” by Taleb, from his mediocre opus Skin in the Game, is just a misconception (I’ll post later about it) and therefore not available.
Some concepts are tempting enough to open a Pandora's box of possibilities. “Another world” by Simon S. is available in so many incarnations that it becomes unavailable.
THE ALAN WATTS FAN CLUB is not available, because whatever those fans do, it has no relation to his works.
Scarce in the Wild
Yet sometimes, things are truly scarce in a purely physical sense.
Hotel Central in Santarém, Portugal, is no longer available.
An English translation of Anatoly Mariengof's best novels is not available.
Because the translator omitted whole sentences and even paragraphs (!), they probably couldn't translate it... You will not find this sentence in the book: “The Red Army soldiers resemble Boers, and the first-class hotel is like the mysterious Transvaal.”
Jose Alaniz did a very poor job here; I wish he could explain why.
For a decent translation of Dostoevsky’s works—another pain point for English-speaking literature lovers—you need to be really picky.
The TOP 10 FEMALE ROCK SINGERS OF ALL TIME are not available, because if you figure out four, you’ll be very lucky.
Euromaidan history (and the history of Eastern Ukraine in general after 2014) is not available because propaganda from all sides has diluted the picture.
Interactive concerts are not available
The collection will continue.
